The Second School – the journey has begun

“I pray to God that it will be the first school of many that the Charlene Project has helped to contribute towards” Charlene writing on her Blog on 18th August 2009 after she had selected Hidden Treasure School and launched Charlene’s Project.

On 9th March we announced that the Trustees of Charlene’s Project had taken the decision to build a second school.

We are delighted to confirm that Charlene’s Project will be working in partnership with Build-Africa to build and support Kahara Primary School in Masindi District in the west of Uganda.

In June we visited the school which was 60km along a mud road, through corn fields, past mud huts and across a stream. The 4 wheel drive was very necessary as we bumped our way towards the school. We were greeted by enthusiastic teachers and management committee.

The Chairperson welcomed us “We are not a poor community but we need help with infrastructure…”. As we walked around the school we were very impressed with the desire to help the children and community that existed in the hearts of the management committee and head teacher. It was so evident that the work that Build-Africa had already done was bearing fruit in a community that wanted education for their children. As we relayed back to our Trustees the story and the incredible need in this very rural community we felt compelled to partner with Build-Africa in building and supporting Kahara Primary School.

Building will start soon. But this is only the beginning of this journey and we would want you to share with Charlene’s Project on this journey towards The Second School. Thank you for supporting the vision that Charlene had for children in Uganda.
