FOOD SUPPORT FOR GUATEMALA DURING COVID 19

On Saturday 23rd May as a family the Barrs are doing a fundraising half marathon walk/run…or trying to…to raise money in aid of supporting Charlene’s Project and the villages of Las Escaleras and Vado Ancho in Guatemala. This will all be within COVID-19 guidelines of course. We are so thankful for so many others who are joining us in their own “locked down” situation and fundraising with us.

We have all been struggling with the impact of COVID-19 but in Guatemala with the lockdown people in these villages have been unable to  access food. We received notification from our partner “The entire country of Guatemala has been on a total lockdown for the past 8 weeks. People are not allowed to work or to leave their village. Because this falls during the hottest and driest time of the year for the Zacapa region, people are without food and suffering from malnutrition and even starvation.”

The number of families in both villages combined is 140.  (62 in Las Escalaras and 78 in Vado Ancho) The cost to provide a food bag for one family is £25 and will contain all a family needs to keep them alive for 1 month – corn, beans and sugar etc. Charlene’s Project has committed to providing these food bags and the transport of these to the villages for 3 months.

So what can you do to get involved in helping these families through the next 3 months?
– Why not set up your own fundraising walk/run challenge to raise awareness and money and join in helping these families overcome the challenge COVID 19 has presented.
– Where and if you can please donate to the cause here

Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to us and will make a huge difference.
