On Monday 17th January the secondary school we have been dreaming off for quite a few years opened in temporary accommodation until the building completes, hopefully by the end of March.
Charlene’s Project has been supporting 8 neighbouring primary schools in Uganda and for some time we have been working with the local community towards the development of a local secondary school for the children of this community. We are so thankful for the support of so many to have made this dream a reality and Phase 1 of the secondary school is currently being completed.
There has been a lot of activity with teacher appointments and temporary arrangements having been put in place to receive the first pupils. It is anticipated that by the end of this year there will be 150 pupils in attendance with the 5 year target being 650 pupils.
There is still much to be done and we are continuing to plan towards Phase 2 which will include borehole, solar, electric, internet and other necessary school buildings.
Charlene’s Poppa, Jim Copeland, aged 95, has decided to continue his indoor cycling aiming to cover 960km by the time of his 96th birthday in June, to raise money for the secondary school.
Please spread the news and share so that we get many people active during 2022 and help Poppa Jim continue his fundraising to finish the school.
Thanks again for all your help and support of Charlene’s Project.
Very best wishes for 2022 – maybe we will see you on our virtual journey round Ireland.
